DOS-style food serving sim

Galactic Foodtruck Simulator 2999 (GFS2999) is a free-to-play simulation from WiL. This is an indie food-serving sim where you play the role of a food truck operator, but serving across the galaxy. Set in the year 2999, you only have 40 weeks to create a thriving business and repay your creditors or risk getting everything wiped out.

Simulating the pixel art-style games from the MS-DOS era, Galactic Foodtruck Simulator 2999 (GFS2999) offers an authentic dated experience. The visuals, soundtrack, and even the confusing gameplay all add up. It’s like FAITH: Chapter II or Master Of Magic.

Create a successful galactic food truck

The premise of Galactic Foodtruck Simulator 2999 (GFS2999) opens up a lot of sci-fi concepts. Once you start the game, one of the first things you do is choose a planet to land on. There are different planets available, each having unique climates, features, and inhabitants. As a food truck operator, you gather ingredients and information, set up shop, and wait for the customers to arrive.

As a part of the DOS Games End of Year Jam 2023, this one is designed to mimic the sensibilities of games created on the old MS-DOS, which predates Windows operating systems. As such, it features pixel art-style visuals and chiptune music that are dated, yet accurate for its objective. Content-wise, it offers a good variety of environments and characters to interact with, not to mention its overall premise.

The main challenge in the game is overcoming its initial learning curve. Since it doesn’t come with tutorials, you will have to learn the game as you go along. This will catch players by surprise and will take a couple of tries to get them right. Additionally, this MS-DOS game only uses keyboard controls, with no support for cursors and mouse controls.

A nostalgic and enjoyable experience

Overall, Galactic Foodtruck Simulator 2999 (GFS2999) is a fun nod to the old days of gaming. It captures the good and bad aspects of a dated gaming experience, whether it’s about graphics and audio, or the complexity and the lack of modern quality-of-life features. The premise and story itself are fascinating, giving players an incentive to keep on trying despite its steep learning curve.
